The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has declared that there is no credible alternative to Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Senator Basiru, speaking in a national television interview monitored by our reporter, described Governor Oyebanji as the candidate with the broadest acceptance across the state.
The APC Scribe said that Oyebanji’s performance in office, coupled with the overwhelming support he enjoys from political stakeholders and residents, has placed him far ahead of his challengers in the race.
He maintained that Saturday’s poll was not merely about political party platforms but about the quality of leadership offered to Ekiti people, insisting that the governor had distinguished himself through inclusive governance, prudent resource management, and a commitment to the welfare of Ekiti residents.
He said that the administration has succeeded in fostering unity among political actors in the state, a development he said has contributed significantly to peace, stability and accelerated development across Ekiti.
Basiru noted that, unlike previous administrations that witnessed deep political divisions, Oyebanji had demonstrated unusual maturity by bringing leaders across political tendencies on board and maintaining cordial relationships with former governors and other stakeholders.
He said the governor’s leadership style had earned him widespread endorsements from individuals and groups beyond the APC, adding that many opposition figures had openly acknowledged the strides recorded under the present administration.

The APC National Secretary argued that while opposition parties were entitled to participate in the poll, they had failed to present a convincing alternative vision capable of matching the incumbent governor’s achievements.
He said, “When you look at the realities on the ground, the people of Ekiti can clearly see the difference. Governance is about performance, service delivery, and impact on people’s lives. Governor Oyebanji has demonstrated capacity in all these areas, and that is why he continues to enjoy widespread acceptance.”
Basiru added that the APC entered the election with confidence because of the governor’s record and the goodwill he had built among the electorate since assuming office.
He urged eligible voters to come out peacefully and exercise their civic responsibility, expressing confidence that the poll’s outcome would reflect the popular support the governor enjoys across the state’s 16 local government areas.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership for creating an enabling environment for good governance, saying that the synergy between the federal and state governments had translated into tangible benefits for the people of Ekiti.
Basiru expressed optimism that the governor would secure a renewed mandate, stressing that the poll would provide Ekiti people with another opportunity to consolidate the developmental gains recorded under the Oyebanji administration.
